Learning to Navigate Market Structure
A systematic approach to reading market structure, filtering noise, and taking ownership of your trading analysis and execution.
An engaging, valuable, and interactive session this morning with a number of striking reversal setups, despite the challenging market. The key is learning to see them, because the setups are there. Really.
It starts with being able to clearly recognize your setup—a reversal or break and retest—on the chart. Ultimately you want to develop an increasingly clear view of the bigger picture, and that's exactly what this morning's trades were about: making an assessment based on more context, so you can anticipate instead of forcing trades, being caught off guard, and/or starting to doubt and perhaps doing nothing at all.
I work with daily, hourly, and intraday minute charts. I avoid overloading the daily chart with levels; I only mark a few. Less is more. I look at patterns on a lower timeframe and then look for the corresponding key levels there. On a lower timeframe I also look quite a bit to the left on the chart to see what's been happening there. For example, I quickly switch from the 2-minute timeframe to the 5- or 15-minute timeframe, which gives me clearer information to identify support or resistance more precisely (UK100 – Trade #1), draw a trendline (DAX – Trade #2) and/or spot a head and shoulders (Trade #2) or a cup and handle (UK100 – Trade #3 / US100 – Trade #4).
Trades and timestamps in the recording are listed at the bottom.
Three important pointers I stick to while navigating the chart:
- Look to the left and zoom out: assess the bigger picture on a higher timeframe
- Besides drawing trendlines, also learn to recognize patterns: head and shoulders, bear/bull flags, cup and handle
- Look ahead to where you expect price action to react and/or where you expect it to break, so you can take your entry - don't get caught off guard by it. I often see my setups unfold hours in advance. Plan your trade and trade your plan.
And how do you get to this level of chart navigation yourself? Just under a year ago I made a clear choice to professionalize by specializing, because I was simply sick of trading inconsistently. Ownership and leadership were needed. Consistently sticking to the following five important points is what got me here. You'll recognize some of them from my reflection story of last week:
- Become a specialist at recognizing one type of setup: for example the reversal or the break and retest
- Have your checklist of (objective) confirmation points 100% clear (see example)
- Log, reflect with your mentor and learn
- Backtest your system using historical chart data - for example last week's, exactly like we did this morning during the session
- Let go of individual wins and losses and focus on the overall result (process)
All five points, but especially the last two - which are a logical consequence of the first three - move you toward mastery. And mastery is exactly what you as Mastery students have signed up for. By the end of the process with me you want to be able to enter the market independently and with confidence. If you don't feel that yet, your solution lies in the combination of the five points above.
In short, this approach helps you become a professional who fully owns their system and enters the market calmly, deliberately, and with consistent results.
Where you stand today is the sum of your past choices. Where you'll stand tomorrow is determined by the choices you make today.

During the first 10 minutes I discuss the market structure and the status of the US indices at a high level. Below are the timestamps for the individual trades I covered:
Trade #1 — at 13 minutes — UK100 — Reversal long — 16:00, 03/02/2026
Trade #2 — at 32 minutes — DAX — Reversal short — 11:30, 03/04/2026
Trade #3 — at 55 minutes — UK100 — Reversal short — 13:00, 03/05/2026
Trade #4 — at 1 hour and 14 minutes — US100 — Reversal short — 09:00, 03/06/2026
Some of you mentioned during the session that you'd like to stay in touch with each other to learn from one another and keep each other sharp - as accountability partners, so to speak. Let me know below with a ✅ if you'd like to join the WhatsApp group that (fellow student) Sydney is organizing.
